One of my earliest and fondest memories is dancing in my living room to Carol King’s “I feel the Earth Move”, spinning until I felt dizzy and falling to the earth in bliss. I spent many years studying classical ballet, training with teachers from the Joffrey ballet, and at the Houston Ballet School. I chose not to continue the difficult path of becoming a professional dancer, yet consistently throughout my life, dance has been a form of creative expression and spiritual embodiment.
In college I studied Laban Bartenieff Movement Analysis which gave me a rich language for improvisation, and in NYC, my home for over 20 years, I studied modern dance and improvisational forms with teachers such KJ Holmes and Katiti King. 5Rhythms, a moving meditation modality created by Gabrielle Roth, brought a spiritual and emotional layer to my dance.
Mbodhi is a practice that can be done alone, in the woods, or in our living rooms - yet as social beings, we crave community and we want “to be seen” and it is my hope to create a space of radical loving acceptance where we feel safe to share our dance, creating ourselves anew with every step… into the present moment.
